At Mandate Media, we support progressive political candidates and advocacy groups by centering each client’s real voice and values to engage supporters and drive change. What's the job?
Senior Strategist: Campaigns + Advocacy
Full-time position. This role is open to remote workers and in-office in Portland, Oregon, where we operate under a hybrid remote/office model.
Our strategists spend much of their time developing creative and strategic concepts to engage our clients’ audiences online. You’ll manage a small portfolio of clients from around the country, working alongside another strategist on each one.
Manage Client Digital Communication Programs:
Independently drive your clients’ overall digital strategy:
- Pacing: Plan, maintain, and deliver upon a communications calendar that considers frequency of outreach, different calls to action, fundraising and engagement goals, and key campaign dates.
- Direction: Work with your clients to identify their strategic and political priorities and the key elements of their voice.
- Media: Assign the best medium (email/text/social media/advertisement) and timing for your clients’ messages.
- Content: With a partner, write and produce campaign communications (email, text, social media, or ads) Host regular calls with clients to analyze and interpret campaign metrics, brainstorm new ideas, and review the plan for the days ahead.
- Employ best practices for digital communications.
- Demonstrate fluency in communications and campaign tactics.
- Integrate our work with the rest of a client's overall strategy.
- Collaborate with our ads and acquisition team on list-building and onboarding efforts.
- Monitor all the elements of your clients’ digital programs to ensure that all tasks are completed skillfully and on time.
- Participate as an active member of the broader consulting team.
Integrate into your clients’ campaigns:
- Maintain an interest in and knowledge of the strategic landscape of our clients' efforts, identifying political risks and opportunities, and proactively offering digital solutions to our clients’ challenges.
- Participate in all-consultants calls, Slack teams, Signal networks, etc.
- Build productive relationships with our clients, their staff, and other consultants.
Provide leadership within Mandate Media:
- Master all necessary tools and technical skills the job requires – email and texting platforms, gathering and analyzing data, proofreading, light coding, etc.
- Explore the potential of those tools to solve problems in new ways.
- Follow and role-model Mandate internal procedures.
- Share expertise, and contribute to a collaborative, supportive work environment.
Desired skills and experience:
We don’t expect you to know everything on day one, but you’ll need to be comfortable and experienced with the rhythm and best practices of digital strategy, as well as ready to expand your skills. A smart, adaptable, creative person with strong time management skills will thrive at Mandate Media.

Communication: Exceptional communication skills, especially written (grammar, syntax, spelling, attention to editing details), and adaptability in tone per client needs.

Strategic partnership: Customer service and client-forward orientation are critical. Anticipate client needs, follow best practices, identify political risks and opportunities, and pitch fresh ideas in addition to completing ongoing tasks.

Digital proficiency: Proficiency with email broadcasting and fundraising tools including ActBlue and NGP/EveryAction. Understanding of social media platforms, theories of change, and writing for engagement, fundraising, and advocacy. Proficiency in Canva and other platforms such as Action Network, Numero, Scale to Win and similar tools are a plus, but not required.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience (or equivalent) in a similar role in nonprofit advocacy, political campaigns, or serving elected officials.
Compensation and benefits:
- $66,000-$85,000 annually
- Cell phone stipend
