Making caucus votes open, transparent, and instantly reportedOver at the Iowa Voters blog, they're discussing the possibility that the 2008 Iowa Caucus could feature instant online reporting of votes cast at the precinct level: In 2004 the results came in quickly due to an automated phone-in system. But they weren’t transparent. A caucus reported its results on a touchtone phone with no confirmation that the transmission had gone smoothly. The plan under consideration will cure that. The recommendation from the DNC is here (PDF). No word on whether Nevada plans to follow suit with their first-ever early presidential caucus.
